Happy Birthday, Mr. Holmes!

From the final pages of my book: That was January 6, 1904. Twelfth Night, the Day of Epiphany, and, coincidentally, my 50th birthday. Monsieur Chartrain did not know this—he had no reason to. Even I, myself, was only reminded of it by the gift. I had never subscribed to the sentimentality of birthday celebrations, but the passing of such a significant milestone made me pause to consider what I had achieved in a half century. I picked up my new …

Happy Birthday, my dear Holmes!

Raise a glass of sherry to Sherlock Holmes on January 6 this year, as he turns 161 years old. Still going strong in books, movies, and TV, the great detective famously said in A Study in Scarlet, “I consider that a man’s brain originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with such furniture as you choose….It is a mistake to think that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent. Chatting with Rosalyn Landor

Thrilled to have a wonderful phone chat with British actress Rosalyn Landor, who narrated the audiobook for My Dear Watson! She played Helen Stoner in the “Adventure of the Speckled Band” episode with Jeremy Brett in the ’80s BBC production of “Sherlock Holmes.” A great discussion of our lives, plans, and careers. Holiday Season Reading

What are you reading this month? If you’re between seasons of the BBC show, Sherlock, or if your appetite for Holmes is whetted by watching the CBS show, Elementary, try My Dear Watson–my pastiche novel written by Holmes rather than by Watson. Wouldn’t you like to get inside the mind of the greatest detective of all time? If you’re looking for picture books for young children, I can offer several to choose from. I’ve been lucky enough to work with …

Elementary, CBS

So what do we all think of the new CBS TV show about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, Elementary? Following in the shadow of the wonderful BBC show, Sherlock, it’s quite a letdown, I think. I have nothing against Watson being a woman, but I detected no chemistry between Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller, despite the fact that CBS is clearly setting up a love-hate relationship between the two. And I miss the tongue-in-cheek references to the original canon …

Rosalyn Landor to narrate audio book!

Excited that British actress Rosalyn Landor will narrate “My Dear Watson” for an audiobook! I remember her well as Fiona Allways on the Rumpole of the Bailey series. A wonderful choice! Check out the other audiobooks at Blackstone Audio too.

Audio book of My Dear Watson

Just found out there’s going to be an audio book of My Dear Watson! An agreement is almost finalized between my publisher, MX Publishing, and Blackstone Audiobooks! Details to follow, but… wondering who they’ll get to narrate the book? Need an older British woman with crisp diction and impatient tone!
